 | Welcome to the exciting world of Pam Fitness!
Congratulations, you’ve just discovered one of the finest personal fitness tools ever created. We’re certain that you’ll be impressed with the distinctive elegance and ease of use of the new Pam© Activity Monitor, and that you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easily it will fit into your daily lifestyle. Pam features an inconspicuous low-profile design and perfectly silent operation, so you’ll be able to wear it everyday and everywhere. More importantly, we believe that you’ll be absolutely astounded at how your little Pam will consistently motivate you to achieve and maintain your long-term personal fitness goals, whether you’re wanting to tone up and lose weight, train for a 25k marathon …or simply increase your general activity level.
The U.S. Surgeon General has determined that maintaining an active lifestyle is much healthier than being sedentary, but the vast majority of the population is still not active enough. Moreover, what, exactly, is “enough”? Is running twice a week enough? On the other hand, is a single walk every day enough? And for how long a duration do we exercise each day?
Pam instantly answers all those questions for you. It’s the perfect personal coach for anyone who needs to be more active, but hasn’t quite been able to develop or maintain the long-term motivation, guidance, and sense of accountability.
It’s also very simple to use. You’ll only need adjust the time, clip it to your belt or waistband, …and go! Instantly, Pam will begin to accurately measure all your movements and provide you with a constant readout of your activity level throughout your entire day. And, when you drop your Pam into the included Docking Station, it will automatically connect you to your Pam Online Coach, where your daily activity level data will be immediately uploaded, displayed and stored* on your personal Pam Web Page… where you’ll be able to instantly see your Pam Score converted into such common measurements as calories burned, steps taken, percentage of your goal, and much more valuable personal fitness information. Moreover, your Pam will also track – and your Online Coach will display - the exact number of minutes that you’ve spent in the Health Zone (defined as “walking”, or activities with similar intensity), and the number of minutes you’ve spent in the Sport Zone (defined as “running”, or activities with similar intensity). This will make it a lot easier for you to be sure you live up to the U.S. Surgeon General’s suggested goal of achieving an average of 30 minutes of medium intensity activity each and every day.
Your new Pam will soon turn your daily personal fitness goals into a fun (and addicting) game of numbers!

How does Pam measure my activity?
Pam is the smallest and lightest self-contained personal accelerometer in existence, and the only such interactive captology1 instrument that is fully Internet-enabled through a direct connection via your PC. Furthermore, even though the Pam unit is extremely rugged and reliable, it’s also an extremely sensitive piece of hi-tech research equipment; in fact, the Pam system is currently in use by major research labs and medical universities around the world.
And – because your Pam is a true accelerometer – it’s the only fitness tool capable of correctly measuring and recording the intensity of all your daily activities, by instantaneously tracking the full motion and force (i.e., acceleration and deceleration) of your hips and torso.
In comparison many people have used a common pedometer to strive for a goal of “10,000 steps a day.” Unfortunately, the rather crude “ball-click” mechanism used in almost all pedometers is only capable of registering the approximate number of steps taken while walking (usually based on a so-called “standard” stride), and cannot accurately measure the true energy (i.e., calories) expended during all activities. Moreover, while such pedometers have proven to be effective motivators when worn, many users have complained that the typical pedometer is “too noisy and clunky” to be suitable for normal everyday use; therefore, their ability to motivate the wearer is usually only limited to planned and scheduled walks.
In contrast to the limitations and shortcomings of the old-fashioned pedometer, your sleek new Pam accelerometer utilizes patented and proven microchip technology to silently and discreetly track your total energy expenditure at all times, during each of the daily activities you engage in. With Pam always on your hip, you’ll be able to look down and instantly know exactly how much exercise you’ve achieved throughout your entire day, regardless of whether you went out to stroll, walk, speed walk, skip, jog, run, sprint, chase after your children, or play a game of basketball …or perform all of them in quick combination!
This total versatility is what makes the Pam system unique, and powerfully motivating. Almost without being aware of it, you’ll start to discover hundreds of little opportunities throughout your day to increase your total activity level:
- You’ll be inspired to take a quick walk or jog around the block before your morning shower, and you’ll begin to think that it’s the best possible way to start your day;
- Suddenly, you’ll find that waiting for an elevator no longer appeals to you – because the stairs have become your new “calorie burning friends”;
- You’ll decide to stash a pair of good walking or running shoes at the office, because your coffee breaks have now become “Pam Breaks”;
- Should your tennis partner fail to show up for a scheduled match, you’ll still happily work up a sweat just hitting balls against the wall, while concentrating on improving your footwork;
- You’ll persuade yourself to park your car farther and farther away from the store, so you can “earn some extra points”;
- During your weekend golf game, you’ll insist on walking the course, instead of riding around in the cart as usual;
- Most incredible of all: you’ll finally dust off your old home exercise equipment or gym membership, and start using it on a regular basis to help you earn a few more precious Pam Points in the evenings …because you’re totally focused on always achieving your Daily (and Yearly) Pam Goal!
Pam’s unlimited versatility gives you the ability to develop and sustain a consistently active lifestyle, by steadily motivating you to exercise effectively anytime and anywhere, with as little or as much equipment as you choose. Let’s face it: with our lives as hectic as they are, it’s hard to schedule the time to exercise. If you have to exercise at a specific place, a specific time and with a specific individual (personal trainer or exercise partner), too many variables can get in the way of making a planned exercise session happen. However, your new Pam will give you the instant feedback you need concerning the total amount of independent activity you do throughout your day, regardless of the time, place, person, or type of exercise equipment immediately available, so that you will be able to get – and maintain – the long-term fitness results you want.

Your personal Pam Score©
To conveniently record and measure your daily activity level, your Pam utilizes a unique and patented universal activity index, known as the “Pam Score©.” This index has been specifically designed to provide you with a simple, two-digit number that is easily understood. You’ll soon recognize and appreciate the personal significance of your daily individual Pam Score, and you’ll be able to use it to quickly and easily track, increase, and maintain your activity level throughout your entire day.
You can instantly read both your current daily and weekly Pam Scores at any time on the Pam display. To do so, simply push the Pam-button to toggle between your current daily score or weekly average score. The below table shows the suggested range of daily Pam Scores for each fitness lifestyle profile, segmented by age category:
| Age: | < 20 yr | 20-40 yr | 40-65 yr | > 65 yr
|
|---|
| Fitness profile | Pam Score |
|---|
| Low | < 30 | < 20 | < 15 | < 10 |
| Light | 30-40 | 20-30 | 15-25 | 10-20 |
| Medium | 40-60 | 30-40 | 25-35 | 20-30 |
| Active | 60-80 | 40-60 | 35-50 | 30-45 |
| Very Active | 80-100 | 60-80 | 50-70 | 45-60 |
| Extremely Active | > 100 | > 80 | > 70 | > 60 |
For example, a 25-year old individual wishing to achieve a Very Active lifestyle would have to average a daily Pam Score of 60 to 80 Pam Points. However, a 50-year old would only need to record between 50 to 70 Pam Points per day to achieve the same Very Active lifestyle for his or her older age group. Please note that the above table is only indicative of a general level of activity. It’s much more important that you set a realistic personal goal for yourself based on your current condition and lifestyle; the Pam Online Coach (and your personal physician) can advise you on the correct way to safely do this.
So what, exactly, is a “Pam Point”? It’s merely an easy-to-understand measurement of your expended energy. To be precise: it is the ratio between the amount of energy you use while active and the amount of energy you use while at rest, multiplied by 100%. As a general rule of thumb, normal walking for half an hour will result in 7 to 10 extra Pam Points, while normal running for half an hour would result in an increase of 15 to 30 extra Pam Points. Of course, the exact number of points achieved will depend on how vigorously you move, whether walking or running.
Your personal Pam Score provides you with an elegantly simple and straightforward method to quantify and express the total amount of activity that you achieve over a single day. However, your Pam Online Coach automatically converts your Pam Score into a standard caloric measurement of your Total Daily Calorie Expenditure (i.e., a combination of your total activity output and your individual basil metabolic rate, expressed as Total Calories Burned). To do that, you’ll only have to enter the following information just once, when you first register online:
- Your current weight (in pounds or kg);
- Your height (in inches or cm);
- Your birthdate;
- Your gender.
Each time you place your Pam in the Docking Station, your Pam Scores will be instantly uploaded to your personal Pam web page, and all of your calorie conversions and statistics will be compiled and displayed in an easy-to-read format.
As you ease into your new, active Pam lifestyle, we recommend that you only weigh yourself a maximum of 12 times a year (preferably on the same day each month) and update your actual bodyweight on your personal Pam Web Page as necessary. Please remember that it is much healthier for you to focus on how you feel and look rather than the number of pounds on your scale ...but if you enjoy focusing on numbers, you can now get excited watching your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly Pam Scores rise!
